Council on Aging · Meeting of March 21, 2026

Groveland Council on Aging hosts Women's Day forum on art, climate and community. Director Alyssa Lee welcomed Paula Esty, founder and executive director of the PEG Center for Art and Activism, and Vanessa Lopez, director of VC Park, for a presentation-only program with no votes taken. Esty described pivoting her Newburyport-based organization from social justice to climate work after reading "The Future We Choose," giving away 250 copies and launching four local climate initiatives, including a pollinator garden on a 5,000-square-foot Newburyport parks department plot.

She offered to start a book club or climate project with Groveland seniors. Lopez detailed VC Park's history as a former home to the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity and its ongoing rewilding project. "I don't do the work for you," Esty said, "but certainly, we are together as a community that helps each other do that."
