Groveland's Council on Aging board reviews a pilot horse-therapy program for dementia caregivers.
Council on Aging · Meeting of January 21, 2026
Groveland's Council on Aging board reviews a pilot horse-therapy program for dementia caregivers. Director Alyssa Lee presented "It Takes a Herd," developed by certified dementia practitioner Karen Coppola, which would pair up to eight residents and caregivers with therapy horses in Salisbury starting around mid-May, funded through the COA's revolving account rather than its operating budget. The board also weighed a new day-trip partnership with a Newburyport travel agency, offering excursions to Newport's daffodil festival and Boston's Tall Ships Parade.
Lee said van driver Steve Craven has given informal notice he may relocate, prompting succession planning, calling him "incredibly generous with his time." The board's community survey has logged 307 completed responses, and the fiscal 2027 budget request moves to the town Finance Committee on January 28. The COA also reported 13 households received fuel assistance checks this year through a partnership with Groveland Congregational Church.
